Careers 101 is a four-week program for those looking for support with their career journey.

Timeframe: Tuesdays (10am - 12pm) from Week 4 - Week 7 of Semester 1, 2026

Mode: On Campus, St Lucia - Building 33, ViewPoint

Program:

Session 1 (17/03/2026): Your professional identity and online presence
Start by unpacking your professional identity and developing you professional presence online.
Session 2 (24/03/2026): Job searching and networking
Develop your job searching strategies and discover the 'how to's' and opportunities for networking.
Session 3 (31/03/2026): Applications
Learn tips and strategies for developing your first resume and cover letter
Session 4 (14/04/2026): Interviews and Workplace Toolkit
Learn how to stand-out in interviews, how to articulate your experiences, and how to prepare for your first day in a new job. You'll also put all your past week's learnings together into developing a Career Plan.

As part of this program you will have weekly online modules to complete. The online modules are completed at your own pace and serve as a resource to provide further opportunity to engage in career development learning.

This program will be capped due to available room capacity, so please register for the program here so as not to miss out.
As this is a four-week program, the expectation is that you attend every session. Therefore, if you register but then are no longer able to attend every session, please cancel your booking as earlier as possible, before Friday 13 March 2025, to enable another student opportunity to attend.

Career Advancement Program

Build your unique value proposition, master job applications, ace mock interviews, and pitch your ideas to industry professionals and get live feedback. You'll gain hands-on experience, personalised feedback, and a network of valuable contacts — all while earning a digital badge to showcase your achievement.

Whether you're preparing for internships, graduate roles, or career pivots, this program will sharpen your skills and boost your confidence. Over four weeks, you will connect with UQ career development team members, industry representatives, and fellow students.

A digital badge will be awarded to participants who attend at least three in-person sessions of the program and passing two assessments. This can be used as one supplementary activity towards the Employability Award.

Program Overview

Dates and: Every Friday (10AM - 12PM) | 1, 8, 15, and 29 August 2025

Mode: On campus, St Lucia (no online mode available)

Program Outline:

Workshop 1: Crafting Your Unique Value Proposition & Strategic Career Plan

Workshop 2: Strategic Networking & Industry Engagement

Workshop 3: Collaborative Problem Solving & Pitch Assessment

Workshop 4: Reflection, Storytelling & Career Integration

Assessment 1: Elevator pitch (2-5 minutes)

Assessment 2: Reflective blog post (300-500 words)

Note: This program is capped to a limited number of participants. Therefore, please ensure that you can commit to and attend every workshop before signing up.

Career Advancement Program can also count towards your Employability Award.

Would you like to engage in an industry-led internship, make new connections and learn how to effectively communicate your capabilities gained from both this and past experiences to prospective employers? If so, enrol in our Career Advancement Program!

Over four weeks, you will connect with Careers team members, industry representatives and fellow students to enhance your career confidence.

A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants who attend at least three sessions of the program. The certificate can be used as one supplementary activity towards the Employability Award.

Full Program

When: Every Tuesday, 2 - 4 PM | 8 - 29 August 2023

Where: On Campus, St Lucia (no online mode available)

Program outline:

Session 1: Professional Identity and professional branding. Create your unique value proposition. Develop your resume for an opportunity to be reviewed by industry representatives.
Session 2: Career progression and experienced applications. Understand the employer's expectations for an application of an experienced applicant and have your resume reviewed by an industry representative.
Session 3: Ventia and Transurban will facilitate a 'One-Hour Internship', where you can engage in a hands-on problem-solving activity. This opportunity allows you to develop essential skills, make valuable connections, and enjoy a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.
Session 4: Articulate your value, capabilities, and experience in a mock interview setting with industry representatives.

Careers 101 is a four-week program for those wanting some help to get started in their career journey.

Over four weeks, you will connect with members of the Careers team, and fellow students. All participants who complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Full Program:

Dates: Every Tuesday (2 PM - 4 PM) | from 14th March to 4th April 2023

Mode: On Campus, St Lucia

Program:

Session 1: Understanding your professional identity and brand
Set your goals for the program, and start identifying your professional capabilities and career pathways of interest.
Session 2: Identifying your career pathway and developing your experiences
Learn about experiences available and strategies for job searching in Australia
Session 3: Applications
Learn tips and strategies for developing your first resume and cover letter
Session 4: Reflecting and Articulating experiences, capabilities, and your value
Learn ways that you can reflect on your experiences and articulate them

As part of this program, all registers will be enrolled in the My Career Adviser (MCA). MCA is a self-paced online program with a wealth of online careers and employability resources. If you would prefer not to be enrolled, please notify us via careers@uq.edu.au.

Develop an understanding of the value of different skills, capabilities and contributions by different team members.
Week 4: Networking and mock interviews with industry
Finesse your networking skills, and have the opportunity to do a mock interview with industry

Over 6 weeks, you will connect with members of the Careers team, special guest speakers and fellow students. All participants who complete the program will get the chance to practice their networking skills at a celebration networking session at the conclusion of the program and receive a Certificate of Completion.

Dates: Every Tuesday (10AM - 12PM) | from 22 March 2022 till 26 April 2022

Mode: On Campus, St Lucia (no online mode available)

Program:

Week 1: Professional identity and career pathway
Set your goals for the program, and start identifying your professional capabilities and career pathways of interest.
Week 2: Job searching in Australia
Learn about platforms and strategies for job searching in Australia.
Week 3: Resume and Cover Letters
Learn tips and strategies for developing your first resume and cover letter.
Week 4: Professional branding and networking
Identity platforms and forums used in your industry and complete a social media audit.
Week 5: Interviews
Develop your interview skills, and get practicing with mock interviews with your peers.
Week 6: Reflection, Celebration and Networking
The final session will include a networking event so that you can put your skills into action and find out more about how to enrich your university experience!

This program no longer requires an Expression of Interest, please feel to register to this program by booking directly here and you will be added to the program sessions to receive reminders.
