Value Learning has been appointed by the Australia-Indonesia Institute (AII) of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to deliver the .ÌýÌý

First established in 1982, AIYEP links youth in Australia and Indonesia through social, professional, and cultural exchange. It is an opportunity for participants to grow their intercultural skills, professional experiences, and international networks. The AII is proud to support this project as part of its mission to deepen community and institutional links between Australia and Indonesia.

21 Australian participants will be selected for the AIYEP program.

Sample ±è°ù´Ç²µ°ù²¹³¾Ìýitinerary:

Online Program: 4 September – 9 October

  • Approx. 25 hours total (4–6 hrs/week)
  • Includes the AFS Global Competence Certificate

All participants in Australia together: 19 – 23 November

  • Melbourne trip: 18 November

Indonesia Experience: 23 November – 28 December

  • 30 hours/week at a local organisation
  • Live with a host family
  • Engage in cultural, professional, and community activities

Important timing information

This program commences during UQ's Semester Two examination period. Students are strongly encouraged to plan their Semester Two enrolment to include courses that do not have end of semester exams to avoid scheduling conflicts. Deferred exams are not usually granted for participation in short-term global experiences. Should end of semester exams be unavoidable in your program, students must consult their Faculty before applying to seek written confirmation that a deferred exam would be approved.

Please note that the Global Experiences team cannot guarantee that deferred exams will be granted, as this decision rests with Faculties.

Application Requirements:

Students should first apply to the ´¡±õ³Û·¡±ÊÌýProgram directly. If accepted, you should then apply to UQ (see link below). 

To Apply to the AIYEP Program:

You can submit your Expression of Interest . AIYEP will contact you when applications for AIYEP 2026 are ready to open. 

Your AIYEP Application should include:

  1. Completed application form
  2. Your CV
  3. 2 letters of recommendation

To Apply to UQ:

Once you have been accepted to the AIYEP Program, complete the Global Enrichment Experiences application (link below) and include the following submission documents:

  1. UQ studies report (downloaded from ).
    Master's students in their first semester can provide their undergraduate transcripts.

    Experience Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible to participate in this global enrichment experience, you must:

    • be a current:
      • Undergraduate student
      • Graduate student (Masters)
      • HDR or PhD candidate
    • be 21-25 years of age
    • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
    • not due to graduate before the completion of the experience.

    Exams and assessments

    It is your responsibility to ensure that participation in a Global Enrichment Experience does not impact your exams or assessments at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø. Please be aware that you may not be eligible for deferred or supplementary exams or assessments if there is a conflict.

    Costs and Accommodation

    AIYEP awards outstanding young Australians with full scholarships to participate, which will cover all flights, accommodation, meals, visas and insurance. In return, participants are expected to represent Australia to their best ability and engage fully in all aspects of the program.

    51³Ô¹ÏÍøstay accommodation is provided in Indonesia for the duration of the in-country experience. Accommodation in a hotel in Australia is provided for orientation.

    As the Global Experiences team is not a visa-issuing authority, we cannot provide visa advice.

    Insurance

    Students will be covered by  for the duration of the experience. If you plan to travel for a longer duration that the experience covers, or outside the country of the experience, you are liable for the cost of additional travel and health insurance.
