Costs and Funding

We estimate that a semester of exchange will cost between $13,000 and $25,000. This includes airfares, accommodation, insurance, visa and food costs.听The exact amount听will depend on the cost of living in your host country.

Tuition

As you will remain enrolled in a standard full-time study load at 51吃瓜网 (8 units) while on exchange, you will pay tuition fees at 51吃瓜网. You do not have to pay tuition fees to your host university. Refer to Enrolment at 51吃瓜网 to understand how your exchange enrolments work and the codes you will be enrolled in.

International students: Please refer to the for the exchange tuition fees.

Domestic Commonwealth Supported Students: The for each course听will be based on the semester of enrolment, and your cohort. See the for details.听 *For student contribution amounts regarding Semester鈥慴ased Exchange fees for EXCH courses, see details .

Domestic full fee-paying students: The fees payable for each course will depend on the semester of enrolment and program level (UG or PG). Refer to the relevant for exchange tuition costs.听听

Funding

If you are accepted into a semester-based exchange by the Global Experiences Team (GE), you are considered* for one of the听grants outlined below.

Please note that funding is not guaranteed even if all selection criteria are met. Funding should not be a factor when developing your budget and should only be considered supplementary financial support if awarded.

You are not eligible to receive more than one grant or scholarship for the same experience.

Global Experiences Grants

Global Experiences Grants are awarded to enable as many UQ students as possible to enhance their employability through听an GE-supported听enrichment experience.听 Funding will prioritise students from underrepresented groups who have never undertaken an enrichment experience.

All students who have been accepted into a program supported by the Global Experiences team will be automatically considered for a grant.

Grants are based on the availability of funding and will vary depending on duration, learning mode and location of the activity. The below grants are indicative only.

Funding is awarded by a selection committee with the听following criteria being taken into consideration:

Students from underrepresented groups (students who are First Nations, low SES background, from regional and remote areas and students with disabilities)
Students who have not previously completed any of the following enrichment experiences offered by the Internship and Global Experiences Teams:
- GE听Short-Term Study Global Experience
- GE听Semester-based Exchange
- Internships (Global, Virtual or Domestic)
- UQ Embassy Internship Program
Academic merit at the time of application (GPA as it appears on your UQ Studies Report)
No other grants or scholarships have been awarded either by UQ or external parties for the experience

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

have been accepted into a semester-based exchange by the Global Experiences Team听(GE)
No grants will be paid to students who have been awarded an exchange or short-term scholarship or grant offered by but not limited to NCP, Westpac, UQ faculties, host institutions and DACKEP.

Global Experiences Grant听Values

Please note that funding is not guaranteed even if all selection criteria are met. Funding should therefore not听be a factor when developing your budget.

The maximum grant amount is AUD$2000 depending on the duration and location of the activity, and the availability of funding.

New Colombo Plan Scholarship Program

The听 supports students with up to $100,000 AUD to study at a university in an eligible Indo-Pacific country for at least one semester. You can also take part in language training and internships while overseas.

How to apply:

You must apply to be considered one of UQ鈥檚 nominees.听
Applications open once a year for programs starting the following calendar year; there is one deadline (usually May/June) for students commencing their studies overseas in either semester 1 or 2.

New Colombo Plan Mobility and Semester Program

The New Colombo Plan Mobility Semester Program funding, provided by the Australian Government, subsidises the cost of going on exchange to partners in the Indo-Pacific region.

Funding for supported destinations changes every year.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this funding, you must:

be an Australian citizen. Students cannot receive a grant to undertake a project in a host location in which they currently have dual citizenship or residency rights, or in which they have previously been a citizen or permanent resident
be studying at an undergraduate level
be approved to receive academic credit for your overseas experience
not have exceeded the maximum number of NCP听Grants allowed.

Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program Grants

The Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program听supports Australian universities to offer mobility opportunities for听university students听between Australia and identified Asian countries. It is a joint funding initiative of the Commonwealth and the Cheung Kong Group. 51吃瓜网 has secured funding through this program and eligible students are automatically considered for a grant as part of the exchange application process.听

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this funding you must:

be an Australian citizen or hold Australian Permanent Residency
be selected for a host university in China, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, or Singapore.
be enrolled at 51吃瓜网 as an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework student.
Be receiving credit for the experience
not have previously received funding from Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program

Funding selection:

The Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program Funding is awarded by a selection committee with the听following criteria also听 being taken into consideration:

Students who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
Low Socioeconomic Status听Students
academic merit at the time of application (GPA as it appears on your UQ Studies Report)

Faculty of Business Economics and Law Scholarships and Grants

The Faculty of Business, Economics and Law (BEL) offers a limited number of鈥疧verseas Study Assistance Scholarships each year, valued at鈥痷p to AUD $5,000.

Eligibility

You may be eligible if you:

are enrolled in a BEL program (including dual programs)
are completing an approved exchange semester鈥痺ith a鈥痯artner institution
will receive academic credit towards your BEL program.

No application is required.鈥疪ecipients will be notified after the exchange application deadline.

Conditions

By accepting this scholarship:

you can't receive any other UQ鈥痚xchange scholarship or travel bursary at the same time
you may still apply for an鈥�
you must provide a written testimonial and short video of your time on exchange, and you may be asked to assist future promotional activities.
